local artist is finalising some pieces of artwork that are vital to setting the tone and mood of the piece
debating whether I need one more scene or not... when I get the rough cut ironed out a bit more will be seeking feedback from several fellow filmmakers around the valley I admire
I think I mentioned a while back that I was thinking of posting a clip or a teaser of sorts online. But part of me wonders if that isn't a bit too pretentious. After all 10 Pins is just a short. And another part of me is wondering if taking the time to cut a clip would be better spent just working on the main deal... so that's why one hasn't shown up online yet. Then again... who knows. The bug might hit.
Anyhoo - traveling this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to get some small stuff and then the lab later tonight.
I feel very noirish tonight sitting in the lab, going over the tapes, so I thought I would share what's on the ipod while I work on the string out of Ten Pin Alley with you all.
Never fear, my friends and colleagues who have invested time and energy in Ten Pin Alley. Tis not the fate destiny has planned for our little project.
However, since I'm not a believer in fate or destiny... that's not really an appropriate phrase then is it. Hrmmm... *pulls out pen and paper, writes down "find better phrases"*
Ok then... *ahem* moving on, I'm pulling on the lab coat, Igor has powered up the generator and is now pulling the body parts out of the cry-o-freeze and moving them into the tanks near the operating table.
Yes, yes... the laboratory is functional again. (*though I do confess, it took a while to remember where I placed the buzz saw*)
Now where did I place my scalpel?
*begins digging through a box labeled "nessa items"*
Spent all day yesterday on le bus and a few hours running around along the northern coast of France at Le Mont Saint Michel and Saint Malo Arrre me matey! =)
Today - hanging out at the The Pale Irish Pub, blogging away, journaling and sippin down a Guinness. As Bart Simpson would say... "Ah the life of a frog."
Will try and upload some pictures as long as my battery pack lasts for my laptop. Ran out of the house without my power cord after lunch.
Weird to think that I'll be coming home soon. I'm kind of able to order a meal in a restaurant with little or no use of English now. That's a bit of a trip. =)
To make a long story short, my ability to speak french was not at a level where I could effectively understand Mme BLONDELLE nor explain myself to her. By the end of the second week I was just seeing too many miscommunications building up between us. So, I've changed families. I'm sure she thinks I moved because of something else, but that just illustrates the problem. My new host family, the LAURMENTS have more experience in hosting foriegn students and so far, it's been really good. A little too good perhaps. I'm so relaxed now I'm having trouble waking up in the morning like I do at home. So... but that's my problem. As those of you who know me so well already know I'm not a morning person. ;)
In other news I've been wondering why my back left side has been spazzing on me. I will just be standing there and then my left hamstring will just spazz for a moment then be fine. I *think* I figured out why today. At 9:00 AM I climb the stairs to the 3rd floor for class. At 10 AM I descend the stairs for a break, then climb them again. At 11 AM repeat what I did at 10 AM At Noon... descend for lunch. Then... repeat again on Mon., Tues., & Thurs. a few more times for our classes in the afternoon. Yeah... I think the left leg is starting to complain a bit.
So, it's a city. A fairly big city, an old city, was founded approximately 2600 years ago on the little island in the middle of the Seine river by the Notre Dame Cathedral. There's a little marker infront of the cathedral called "Point Zero" which is the center of Paris. I expected to be a bit in awe.
What I didn't expect was the sheer opulance of the place, the overt turn a corner and boom something amazing, turn a corner and boom something amazing, turn a corner and boom something amazing, turn a corner and boom something amazing, turn a corner and boom something amazing, turn a corner and boom something amazing, etc. etc. etc.
And I knew the things were big... pretty big... but didn't quite expect "HOW FREAKING BIG!" they were. I have to run to class now, but I thought I would share one of my favorite pictures. (of which I now have over a thousand favorite pictures and I'm only half way through the experiance.)
My english is starting to degrade. I'm misspelling words left and right. I'm pronouncing things wrong and I just screamed in frustration on the street earlier today. Luckily, I was only with a friend. :)
I think I understand the frustrations two & three year olds must have. I can basically comprehend what is going on around me. But I can't express what I'm thinking.
but, the computer connection ended before I could finish this thought. Just wanted to say that I think I would be miserable if Michelle didn't bring a huge jar of allergy pills. AAAAhhhh... this stuff is great and keeps me from digging my eye balls out. :)
Here's a video of the train ride to Tours from Paris. (If I ever get it uploaded.)
So, the weekend was interesting. We explored the city more, checked out the gardens. Hung out at the Place Plumereau and got drenched a few times. Saw on the news a neighboring city got flooded from the storm. But here things are ok. Just wet.
The internet is quite slow here compared to the U. I'm very spoiled at home. I miss the speed. In the words of my friend Michelle, "I think that's what's making me homesick. Everything else is fine. I just want my internet!" Yep... we're a couple of information junkies...
Well, time to go to class...
after class
So, didn't get the video to upload. Will keep working on it.
It's weird to get reprimanded for not going out enough. Mme BLONDELLE shooed me out of the apartment Sunday. That was strange, but interesting. Luckily I had already made plans to visit the gardens here.
Well, we're off to a cafe and then it's to home. I have to be home at 7:30 PM sharp.
So so much to write about. I've been falling asleep before I can write it all down, and now that I'm sitting here I can't think of a thing to write. Except I don't think my skin has felt this good in a very long long looooooooong time.
This is the main classroom building of the school. My class is on the top floor and the stairs are incredibly narrow. :)
Yesterday we took a placement exam and I placed in the 2nd level elementary. So, I'm not totally deficient. After the exam we went on a walking tour around the city and it's incredibly gorgeous. And the food... oh my... the food. I don't think I've ever eaten apples this sweet.
With all the walking and all the veggie eating I'm glad I packed a couple of belts.
A very big big Big BIG thank you to everyone involved with the shoots last Friday, Sunday and Monday. I have reviewed the tapes and it looks FANTASTIC!
I am focusing on passing my French exam at the moment but this weekend I'll be back in the laboratory cutting, sewing, drilling, electrifying the bits and pieces together.
The Blonde Bomber's graphic has been completed. We'll be scanning it this evening and since the artwork is so... over the top I've decided to order the #3 - classic & simple.
I'm in a minimalist mood this evening, so to sum up why I dropped off the face of the planet on you all -
"Life Happened."
So, forgive me while I stagger about a bit, groan and regain my footing.
I could bore you all with long tales what happened, but really, wouldn't you rather rather I spend time discussing the monster (Ten Pin Alley) instead of the state of my dilapidated creepy little castle on the hill. =)
So, here we go. I started this page because I figure it would be more efficient form to give updates on where all the little production bits are at and a little more fun without filling up your inboxes with lots of phooey. (I love phooey, it goes well with chopsticks & noodles.)
I'm also thinking it would be a way for everyone to keep tabs on the monster's progress as we move forward. (Pushes rock a bit.)
The laboratory is functioning again. - Igor has put a fresh coat of paint and added a few throw pillows and fixed that pesky switch by the door.
I am at this very moment in the AVID editing lab at the U, getting files organized and prepping the bins to capture the scene's shot last fall. I loves me some screengrabs, so expect a few choice images within the week. In particular, I'm looking forward to Gino's Death Scene. (it was an on set last minute addition)
Doodleboards (storyboards) are in production, those of you who read the 3rd draft will hopefully appreciate the doodles I'm working on come time to shoot the bowling alley scenes.
Artwork for the Blonde Bomber's bowling shirts is almost complete, the artist has inked it, it now just needs to be colored. Once it's complete, we can proceed with the creation of the hot pink bowling shirts.
85% of the items needed for Polly's electrified costumes have been found, a few more items and construction can begin.
Body Parts & just a few Sutures, no blood I'm looking at scheduling shooting on Sunday's & Monday's and possibly a couple of Thursday evenings in February. Here is a list of scenes left to be shot.
Date Night Montage - INT. LAURA's BATHROOM - American Indian Resource Center - UofU Campus, Ft. Douglas
The Choke-n-Croak - INT. RESTURANT
Stooge Soup - INT. KITCHEN
Life's a Drag - EXT. BOWLING ALLEY
Bowler's Ballet - INT. BOWLING ALLEY - Town n Country Lanes - Midvale
Bowler's Brawl - INT. BOWLING ALLEY - Town n Country Lanes - Midvale
Big Phyl's Dream - INT. DANCE HALL
Grave Digging Anybody got a shovel? Care to lend a hand?
Wigs - Big Phyl is going to need a couple of blonde B-52 beehivesque wigs. I also want to abuse the dummy we're making as much as possible so I'm also looking for a few extra wigs we can throw on it and smack it around a bit.
Make-Up Artist – I need a person who would be willing to make you all look a bit mussed up after the brawl.
Shirt sizes - Everyone who's a bowler needs to send me a t-shirt size and a shirt shirt size. Depending on how my budget falls out I may or may not outfit some teams with shirts
Break away amber beer bottles – I’ve found a few online places that sells them, but the best price so far is over a hundred bucks for 6 bottles. If anyone knows of a better price, my pocketbook would be extremely grateful. (not to mention my tummy, it’s not fond of ramen noodles)
Crash Pads - who doesn't love a good crash? Those who fall and break something precious, that's who. I loved falling, diving, and doing anything overly dramatic death defying as a kid. (Almost gave a woman a heart attack once, but that's another story.) Even now, on a whim will do a pratt fall if the mood suits me, but floors are hard and I don't expect or want anyone to do anything dangerous or stupid. However, nothing beats a great fall, solution! Cooshy flooring... I would love to find, rent or "borrow" wink wink something thick and cooshy that would be great fun to flop on when one dives out of frame. If you know of where one might aquire something along the lines of what the gymnasts land on after rotating in the air several times that would be peachy.
And there's something else, I can feel it wiggling it's way around the right side of my brain near my ear, just beyond the thought processing factory, I keep throwing the fishing net out there but haven't grabbed it yet.
The lunatic ravings of a mad mind! an explanation would ruin the suspense >=}
So there was this cow that ran off into the night from the farmer who adored her a bit too much if you ask me, but then I’m not one to judge the private goings on’s between man and cow. But I digress, her name was Clarabell and she ended up following the rodeo circuit. Fell hard for a bull named Brutus. Put 10 riders in the hospital he did, but that was before the days of the PETA on Ice protests lead by the figure ice skater mafia rained down on everyone’s parade. - Excerpt from “As the Worm Turns” Another Exciting Dick Mole Detective Story
And that's it for now gang. There's a pile of phone messages on my phone, there's a blur in my eye, and the tummy is demanding it be fed, and I still have to finish shoveling out the wax between my ears. Much love - Nat
