I'm working on my 1st Feature -

I am a lowly PA/Intern/Volunteer. We will see what fun it has in store over the next four weeks.
My Girlfriend's Boyfriend

In the meantime - Update on Ten Pins -

Searching now for music composer as the BGO is on hiatus.

And there is a technical issue I'm still working on. (Basically, if I showed it to you as it is... a few scenes would jitter uncontrollably across the screen.) No one wants to see that. Not even me.

*cue flash back*

INT. EDITING LAB - NIGHT

Nat sits in front of an array of monitors. Her fingers strike the keyboard. The monitors glow with an array of pink bowling shirts and then...

                         NAT
                   MY EYES!!!

Screaming she covers her eyes and collapses to the dingy gray carpeted floor.

*end flashback*

I barely survived.

Anyway - shooting for a mid-July screening on campus for you folks.
Tentatively Friday, July 17th in the evening.

update update update

A cut is done!

Not the final cut. The musical score needs to be worked on, add/change some sound fx and some fine tuning.

SOOOOOoooo... the biggest question on your minds now is "when can we see it?"

Good question. I'm taking care of a little thing called "graduation" this week and then will be back in the lab working on it, but I'll be working on getting a private screening for everyone before June.

1st Review

sort of...

"What a quirky little movie." - Brian Patrick.

Bad news Brian said "You've got a lot of all nighters ahead of you."

Good news Brian said "I really want this in the show."

Update:

Bowler Brawl: is more than half way there, just need to work it out in my head how to structure the close up shots of the fight. The verbal fight is complete and ready for the final sound mix. It's just the physical chaos I'm trying to get my head around.

I would keep going tonight but I doubt I could get much more done. I have all the clips I want to use isolated. I just can't think anymore. So I'm heading home to sleep and will be at it again tomorrow night for a bit.

PS - if I get the cut finished it will have a temp music track with pop music as I want to get it in the show and don't want to delay you all seeing it anymore than I have to. I can spend time after graduation working on a new sound track for it.

closer and closer to a first cut

So, in total there are what I could call four movements. Tomorrow after church (going to drag meself around the block tomorrow morning cause, well... taking time out to not think of me is always a good thing - yes) Anyway - as I was saying tomorrow morning after church I will be stepping back into the lab to work on the post chowder movement. Then and then and then and then... will possibly out put a small clip for people to check out.

On monday evening I'm going to sit down with BP and get feedback from him and we'll see if it makes sense to include it in the spring show. I guess it will depend on how much I can get done between tomorrow and Monday afternoon. But if after the meeting I feel I can get the thing finished up and a final sound mix in by the 27th then the film will be in the show. If however after the meeting I feel that there is far too much work still left to be done, then I'll finish it up and arrange a private screening for cast and crew. Either way, the finish line is in sight.

status:

  • Opening: still planning out how this one should work - laying down the audio first then the images

  • combining these clips together into a movement:

    • Date Night Prep: has been trimmed down - want to tweak it a bit - but otherwise I'm happy with it

    • Stooge Soup: need to move a few things around to make the emphasis of the moment the proposal of Walt to Laura and needs to move a bit faster

    • Choke -n- Croak: need to clean up and tweak the audio - Walt & Laura sound like they are whispering right now. Need to amp them up a bit.

  • Sofa Sadness: Currently in a string out - need to cut together the rough cut

  • Kitchen Madness: clips are made - string out in progress - need to complete rough cut

  • Bowler Brawl: String out is done. Need to complete rough cut.

  • Pool Hall: Clips are made and ready for string out.

and another one bites the dust...

alright - update

parallel rough cut of stooge soup and the choke-n-croak scene is done.
Need to smooth the edits down, and cleaning up the audio track, but that will be in the fine edit.

next up on the chopping block will be the sofa sadness and kitchen madness. Try to do those tomorrow night.

status:

  • Opening: A very very rough cut was done that has a lot of problems. A friend has suggested a different strategy, so a second go of that is planned for Sunday April 18th

  • Date Night Prep: A long cut of this is done. Needs trimmed down.

  • Stooge Soup: done.

  • Choke -n- Croak: Rough cut is done & has been combined with stooge soup.

  • Sofa Sadness: Currently in a string out - need to cut together the rough cut

  • Kitchen Madness: clips are made - string out in progress - need to complete rough cut

  • Bowler Brawl: String out is done. Need to complete rough cut.

  • Pool Hall: Clips are made and ready for string out.

long over due update...

The bad news:

I had/have been failing my French class and I need that to graduate.

The film was set aside for a period of time so I could focus on passing French. I want to graduate. I need to graduate. Graduation is slightly important and something I've been working towards since 1996. So... that's why there has been little to no progress on the film for quite some time.

Now the good news!

I'm *passing* French this semester. (ta da) Graduation is looking like it's a go. Keep your fingers crossed, say a prayer and we'll see how things go. But I am expecting to be draped in black on May 8th of this year surrounded by friends and family.

Also, my office (coolest bosses ever) are allowing me to cut back my hours a bit during April to finish the film. So, the stone is rolling again, without impacting the study time devoted to French.

So what exactly is the status of the flick?

List of scenes and current status:

  • Opening: A very very rough cut was done that has a lot of problems. A friend has suggested a different strategy, so a second go of that is planned for Sunday April 12th

  • Date Night Prep: A long cut of this is done. Needs trimmed down.

  • Stooge Soup: Rough cut is done. Needs trimmed down.

  • Choke -n- Croak: Rough cut is half done - need to complete the rough

  • Sofa Sadness: Currently in a string out - need to cut together the rough cut

  • Kitchen Madness: clips are made - string out in progress - need to complete rough cut

  • Bowler Brawl: String out is done. Need to complete rough cut.

  • Pool Hall: Clips are made and ready for string out.

updates - updates - updates

Greetings Campers!

A little update on the status of 10 Pins

  • pre-planning stage for titles & transitions

  • finalizing musical score with the BGO

  • local artist is finalising some pieces of artwork that are vital to setting the tone and mood of the piece

  • debating whether I need one more scene or not... when I get the rough cut ironed out a bit more will be seeking feedback from several fellow filmmakers around the valley I admire

I think I mentioned a while back that I was thinking of posting a clip or a teaser of sorts online. But part of me wonders if that isn't a bit too pretentious. After all 10 Pins is just a short. And another part of me is wondering if taking the time to cut a clip would be better spent just working on the main deal... so that's why one hasn't shown up online yet. Then again... who knows. The bug might hit.

Anyhoo - traveling this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to get some small stuff and then the lab later tonight.

I feel very noirish tonight sitting in the lab, going over the tapes, so I thought I would share what's on the ipod while I work on the string out of Ten Pin Alley with you all.

The film that never was...

**insert scream of horror here ->

Never fear, my friends and colleagues who have invested time and energy in Ten Pin Alley. Tis not the fate destiny has planned for our little project.

However, since I'm not a believer in fate or destiny... that's not really an appropriate phrase then is it. Hrmmm... *pulls out pen and paper, writes down "find better phrases"*

Ok then...
*ahem*
moving on, I'm pulling on the lab coat, Igor has powered up the generator and is now pulling the body parts out of the cry-o-freeze and moving them into the tanks near the operating table.

Yes, yes... the laboratory is functional again. (*though I do confess, it took a while to remember where I placed the buzz saw*)

Now where did I place my scalpel?

*begins digging through a box labeled "nessa items"*

My favorite screenshots of the night.

Yeah... I think that sums up things pretty well. =)
